New Pacific Northwest Data Center For Weberz Hosting
On October 10th of last year we sent out a service announcement where we had mentioned a possible new data center for Weberz. Today I am pleased to announce that this is in progress. The final contracts for the data center were signed earlier this afternoon that wrapped up the final details of the new facility.
Our parent company General Pacific decided over a year ago to build a new facility for it’s electrical distribution services. After many meetings with lawyers and the like, they were able to secure a property in Fairview, Oregon for the new facility. During this time I had many meetings with upper management and we decided to take a look at the possibility of adding on to that new facility a data center for the Weberz Hosting division. As it turned out, it was not only feasible but also financially smart to do so.
The new data center facility for our shared web hosting and reseller web hosting services is finally under construction and will take roughly six months to complete. Construction started on the new facility roughly a week ago and is well under way.
The data center facility will include all of the following:
- Two separate fiber feeds to the building. These fiber feeds are connected to and maintained by two separate telco companies to help eliminate the possibility of any down time.
- Dedicated power service to the data center location in the building. This service is isolated from the rest of the building to ensure that nothing outside the data center room effects the power within.
- Dedicated dual action fire suppression system. The fire suppression system warns admin personnel if there is either smoke or heat in the room above acceptable levels. If both are present the fire suppression system will take action.
- Dedicated Liebert HVAC System. This dedicated HVAC system will not only monitor and maintain specific temperature and humidity levels within the data center but it also comes with a internal monitoring system that will notify admin personnel of a problem if levels are outside a specified range or in the event of a equipment failure.
- Key card security access. This Comes complete with a monitoring system and log to record who has been in and out of the data center environment.
- Closed circuit camera system recording data center environment activity 24×7.
The best thing about this new data center is the level of service we will be able to offer our customers once we are moved in. Currently our servers are housed in a co-location facility in downtown Portland, while our office is located 8 miles away on the east side of the city. Once the servers are moved to the new data center our staff will be located in the same facility as the equipment, this will allow us to respond quicker to service effecting outages and allow us to service our customers better with more hands on access to the equipment.
For the time being there is no projected move in date for the equipment or the staff. The construction of the facility is slated to take roughly 6 months and then our staff will be working on preparing the facility for the equipment and move. My guess is that the move will take place in December or January, however at this point that’s only a guess.
As we get closer to the completion of the facility we will be able to tell you more about what is happening. Feel free to post your comments or questions about the new facility below and I will try to answer them as best I can.
